GOOD NIGHT JOHN BOY- THE BAND

Deconstructing, reconstructing, and flat out making up songs for their entertainment and yours, Good Night John Boy stays busy

cooking up eclectic renditions of everyone's favorite songs from the '70s, as well a some kicking originals that are classics in the making.

With a unique blend of acoustic guitars, banjo, pedal steel, percussion, bass, and the occasional mandolin, the band combines complex picking with a classic Nashville feel, surprising and delighting audiences at every performance. Plan to sing along with their Twang Town versions of classic gold. Singing along and dancing are not required, but are highly encouraged (and hard to resist).

MEMBER BIOS

ROBIN RUDDY (banjo, pedal steel, vocals, songwriting)

An amazing musician, songwriter, author and music producer, Robin Ruddy has worked with iconic artists like Rod Stewart, Shania Twain, Ray Stevens, David Ball, Terry Clark, Vince Gill, Deborah Allen, and Lynn Anderson.

Robin earned a Grammy Award in 2004 and was also nominated for Best Film Score for Coming Home Again in the 48-Hr Film Festival. She and Cathey have been providing backup for some of Nashville's top talents for years ranging from the members of Nashville's lengendary Girls with Guitars co-op (see below) to new and exciting talents such as Ashley McBryde, Autumn Nicholas, Frankie Staton, Steff Mahan, Emma Zinck, and Valierie Ellis. She's also an established presence on Music Row with her Parlor Productions studio.

CATHEY STAMPS (percussion, vocals, songwriting)

Cathey is an arranger, songwriter, and producer committed to rescuing songs from the arrangement ghetto. She’s played a slew of artists including the legendary Jonell Mosser, Yo’ Mama, Jen Foster, Cheley Tackett, Annie Mosher, Steff Mahan, Mya Burne, Valierie Ellis, Frankie Staton, Ashley McBryde, Shelly Fairchild and a host of others too numerous to mention.

Cathey and Robin first crossed paths working as the backup band for Nashville’s Girls with Guitars with fellow members including Lisa Carver, Kimberley Dahme (bassist and singer for Boston – yes, THAT Boston), and much-awarded Americana artists Mindy Smith, and Mary Gauthier. She and Matt happen to be cousins, and have been playinh music together as well as on their own paths since her early 20s. That's included rock bands of all stripes including Love Struck, Souther Fictions and others. She says she’s “made a great career of playing songs I’ve never heard with people I just met.” With a love of all genres and a frightening knowledge of music styles and histories, she's found her perfect playground with Good Night John Boy.

MATT STAMPS (guitar, mandolin, lead vocals, songwriting)

Matt comes by his talent honestly; his dad Marion played piano at juke joints out in the Williamson County, TN area before settling down to raise a family. Matt grew up as the youngest of five, listening to the music of his older siblings to discover The Beatles, Elton John, the Osmonds, and more before striking out on his own musical path. He and Cathey are cousins and have played music together for most of their lives, including several bands that also featured guitarist Scott Shiveley.

A true student of his chosen obsession, Matt spent most of his time from the age of five hanging out with two neighborhood friends listening to, playing, dissecting, and exploring all musical styles in the basement of the Stamps house. He and Scott worked together for much of their careers, with bands including Skip Tracer, Mother Mercy, Southern Fiction, Love Truck, the December Boys, Little Kings, and the infamous college circuit group Ronnie Raygun. They are also members of the popular '80s band Monsters of Yacht. As lead singer of Good Night John Boy, Matt brings the band its distinctive vocal identity that fans love.

SCOTT SHIVELEY (guitars, vocals, songwriting)

Scott Shiveley is a songwriter, guitar player, singer, and music lover with a talent for finding the crossover points between songs that help create those Good Night John Boy Easter egg arrangements with the prizes inside. He’s created tracks for many of Nashville’s underground heroes, as well as full productions of his own work. He has built his own guitars, too. He also brews his own beer, making him a big favorite with all his musician friends.

With all the shared band time he and Matt have logged, they've created a natural back and forth with rhythms and riffs, creating a perfect unit in the core of the band. Scott also steps up to mic for background vocals and some lead singing as well. His work has led him to opening band slots for 10,000 Maniacs (with Cathey and Matt) and shared bills with Cake and Def Leppard. He’s also worked in Craven Raven and Buttermaker with Jonathan Bright. He, too, is a regular member of Monsters of Yacht.

BEN PARKER (bass)

Bassist Ben Parker is the newest member of the group. He spent years playing in The Parker Family Band before stepping into the spotlight on his own. With his Ben Parker Project, he has opened for many well-known artists including Charlie Daniels, Kelly Pickler and John Anderson.

Ben made the move from Muscle Shoals to Nashville in 2018. When not playing with Good Night John Boy he can be found burning it up on Lower Broadway with other highly talented pickers in the hottest honky tonks in the district.A talented multi-instrumentalist, your guess is as good as ours about what you'll catch him playing if you see him out there.
